Turtle is in a big hurry. And thatas hard for turtles to do. But heas off to see something red and he canat be late. But is it red like Rabbitas roses? Or Goatas socks? Or Foxas roof? All the neighbors want to know, so off they go in a long parade to follow Turtle. But when he finally stops, thereas nothing red in sight. Until all at once they see red, red, red. Yet another trip into the inviting world of Valeri Gorbachev awaits young readers in this charming story. As the anticipation builds, so does the fun. And readers will be tickledaredaby the warm, rosy ending.

PreS-Gr 2 All of the friendly animals in town want to know why Turtle is in such a hurry. "I am off to see something red, red, red," he replies. Each of his neighbors asks if it is something they have, but it is not Mrs. Raccoon's roses, Rabbit's produce, Goat's red socks, Fox's roof (which he is painting red), the firefighters' truck, or Captain Dog's boat. A growing parade of animals follows Turtle as he rushes through the town and up a hill that overlooks the lake. "Where is red, red, red?" they ask. "Look over there," says Turtle, as the friends are rewarded with a strikingly red sunset. Children may enjoy pointing out the colorful objects on each spread and trying to guess Turtle's mysterious destination. The pen-and-ink and watercolor pictures are kid-friendly, with the clothes-wearing critters reminiscent of Richard Scarry characters. A slight, but pleasant story.
